Manuscript evaluations assess the big-picture elements of your manuscript such as plot arcs, character arcs and development, pacing, and how well genre expectations were met. They’re a great option for writers with early drafts and provide objective feedback on the strengths and weaknesses of a piece, highlighting opportunities for growth.
Manuscript evaluations are less comprehensive than developmental edits and will contain minimal inline comments or corrections on the manuscript. Feedback is delivered via an editorial letter. In addition, most editorial letters will provide multiple references to additional resources about the topics discussed, giving the author the tools needed for directed self-learning and self-editing.
Pricing: $250 (partial, 50 pages/12,500 words), $700 (up to 80k words, with +$100 per additional 15k words)
Copyediting delves into the finer details of a completed manuscript. Edits are made to correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors as well as mistakes in plot or character continuity (i.e. character or location names or descriptions). All suggested changes are tracked and provided to the author.
Pricing: $0.018–$0.032/word
Proofreading is the final piece of polish on a manuscript. It should typically take place after a manuscript has been formatted, which allows the proofread to clean up any errors introduced during the typesetting process. A proofread looks at the same sentence-level elements as a copyedit but should require much fewer edits. Proofreading also examines the typesetting of a manuscript and flags the presence of any visual disruptions (e.g. orphans, widows, and runts). All suggested changes are tracked and provided to the author.
Pricing: $0.012–$0.025/word
Typesetting and book design is meant for those with a completed, edited manuscript. For the author interested in self-publishing, a manuscript can be formatted into a reflowable or fixed layout EPUB ready to upload into the publishing platform of choice. Options are also available for print formatting and PDFs.
Pricing: $200–$600 (pricing is heavily dependent on length and design complexity)
Academic Writing Tutoring: Tutoring can be valuable for writers of all levels. During tutoring sessions, writers can choose what topic(s) they’d like to discuss, such as requesting help on a specific assignment, learning about a specific grammar concept, or learning about what is expected in writing based on the piece’s genre and the writer’s chosen discipline. Tutoring is available via a 60-minute synchronous appointment or asynchronous written feedback depending on writer preference.
Pricing: $30/hour
Comprehensive Editing: Available for non-graded academic pieces only (higher education or scholarship applications, theses, dissertations, papers for publication, conference presentation content, etc.).
Due to the large number of silent rules present in academia, this comprehensive edit is meant to facilitate easier entry to and competency within that sphere. It assesses adherence to prompts/guidelines, general clarity, topic relevance, the quality of points made, citation use and accuracy (if needed), sentence strength, and grammar.
Pricing: Varies depending on document type, but averages to ~$30/hour
